The MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICE (MBDO) manages and facilitates
the transfer of innovative and inventive technologies that originate at the
Environmental Technology Centre, as well as markets and promotes the services
and facilities of the Centre itself. The MBDO identifies and protects the Centres
intellectual property, and devises and implements business development strategy
to find licensees or collaborators in other levels of government, academia, and the
private sector - both domestically and internationally. In some cases, participants
in these various arrangements may have the option of developing technologies for
their own specific purposes, using their own facilities and expertise, or opt for
assistance from ETCs scientists and engineers, in its laboratory facilities.

Business Arrangements and Process
Parties interested in learning more about technologies and related business/collaborative
opportunities are invited to contact the MBDO. If a licensing arrangement is of interest,
companies are invited to make a proposal and submit a general business outline indicating
the technology of interest - the functionality, anticipated markets, geographic
area, product or service being contemplated; the capability, capacity and strategy of the
company to commercialize it; proposed payment and other general information to demonstrate
it will be successful. The MBDO will advise companies on the method and requirements
that it will apply when evaluating proposals and deciding if applicants are acceptable.
Once a party has demonstrated it meets the criteria, the MBDO will work with them to
negotiate a suitable license, collaborative, joint development agreement, etc.
arrangement to formalize the transfer. Once complete the MBDO will facilitate the
technology transfer to the successful party and monitor the agreements during implementation.
