Soil Toxicology Laboratory
The soil toxicology laboratory started operations in the fall of 2002. The mandate of this laboratory is to develop and validate new soil toxicity methodologies and maintain the capability to conduct EC’s standardized soil toxicity test methods. Current clients include the Biotechnology Division, NSB and the Canada-wide Standards program (specifically, generation of data needed for 2005 amendments to the Hydrocarbon in Soil national standard) and Sudbury Area Risk Assessment program. As of December 2004, there are three staff members working on different method development projects. The laboratory includes state-of-the-art equipment (such as environmentally controlled growth chambers, incubators, organism culture facilities) for testing the toxicity and pathogenicity of individual toxic substances and contaminated environmental matrices on terrestrial plants and soil invertebrates |
