Michael J. Bumbaco
Michael J. Bumbaco, Chief, Special Programs Division, Environmental Technology Centre (ETC), recently received his 25-year service award. Mike began his career in 1970 as a chemist with the Air Pollution Control Directorate. He was involved in national and regional programs developing new methods for measuring air pollutants such as asbestos and fluorides. He later managed the analytical chemistry operation at ETC, and was a key player in the development of the CEPA Reference Method for analysis of dioxins and furans. Mike, along with divisional colleagues, played a significant role in the federal response to the St. Basile le Grand PCB fire. He currently provides program coordination and development support for ETC, as well as overseeing programs related to Good Laboratory Practice and Method Development Coordination.


25 Year-Service Awards were recently presented to eight employees from the Environmental Technology Centre in Ottawa. The awards were for their continued and committed service to the public service.

Tom Dann

Tom Dann (Environmental Technology Centre) recently received his 25-year service award. One of the architects of the National Air Pollution Surveillance (NAPS) Network, Tom expanded the Network to monitor toxic chemicals and has also been a key player in the scientific assessment of many air toxics of concern in Canada.

Unsung Hero Awards were presented recently at the HQ EPS picnic. Pat Muldoon (Environmental Technology Centre) for his first class service to more than 150 building occupants. As shipper and receiver, he manages a heavy volume of deliveries (from lab equipment, to dangerous and flammable chemicals), in an efficient and economical manner.
